What are Life Groups?
Life Groups are the heartbeat of Rockford First! We believe that true life-change occurs when individuals get together and discuss real issues, confide in one other during difficult times, and celebrate victories in life! Life Groups are a place to connect with others, to gain strength and encouragement, and most importantly to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ.
How do Life Groups work?
Life Groups are small groups of individuals that meet throughout the week for community, Bible study, and spiritual growth. There are hundreds of variations of Life Groups geared for different stages in life: married couples, same gender groups, hobby-based groups, etc.
What kind of Life Groups are there?
Married Couples
There are Life Groups specifically for married couples who are in the same stage in life (couples without children, with children, empty nesters).
Singles
There are Life Groups specifically for single adults. There are groups for either gender in the same age range.
Young Adults
There are Life Groups specifically for adults in their twenties. There are gender specific groups or mixed gender groups for young adults.
High School
There are Life Groups specifically for High School students. These groups are facilitated through our Student Ministries.
Men's Groups
There are Life Groups specifically for men only. These groups are comprised of men in all stages of life: single, married, divorced, widowed.
Women's Groups
There are Life Groups specifically for women only. These groups are comprised of women in all stages of life: single, married, divorced, widowed.
Divorce Recovery Groups
There are Life Groups specifically for those recovering from divorce. These groups are both co-ed and gender specific.
Is childcare provided for each group meeting?
Childcare is provided only by Life Groups that choose to do so. Our list of Life Groups indicates those that provide childcare.
When and where do Life Groups meet?
There are different Life Groups that meet every day of the week. Some Life Groups meet in the mornings, but most in the evenings. Life Groups generally meet in someone's home but some also meet in coffee shops, break rooms, and various locations throughout the city.
How often do Life Groups meet?
You will find variety in the times that Life Groups meet. While most groups meet weekly, some groups meet every other week or even once a month.
How long does a Life Group last?
It is up to each group's discretion as to how long their Life Group will last. Some will go for a few weeks, a few months, or perhaps a year.
How long does each group meeting last?
Each Life Group chooses the length of time they will meet. However, most groups meet for an hour and a half to two hours.
What goes on at a Life Group?
There are a few main components that take place in every group: a time of prayer, discussion of the book, DVD, or curriculum being studied, and a time of fellowship. However, it is up to each group the order and length they will spend on each of the above.
What do they study?
Each Host has access to the Life Group Resource Center provided by Rockford First. Each group decides what resources or curriculum they'd like to study, often based out of the Resource Center.
